Every year as the clock strikes 12, the whole world celebrates the beginning of a new year. Every year we make a gazillion promises to ourselves to start the New Year in a better way, but the real challenge starts when the first week passes by and the motivation to carry out those promises starts to fade.
The clock is ticking now, but it won’t be ticking forever, it’s about time we get up from our slumber and start doing something for ourselves.
If you want to make the year 2020, the year you overcome all of your unhealthy habits and bring significant changes to yourself then now is the time. Make sure that at the end of this year, when the clock strikes 12, you can proudly look back and smile at your achievements and pat yourself on the back for standing by each and every promise that you made to yourself.
Here is a list of things, that you can follow and welcome the new year; a healthy way.
Waking up early and sleeping in time
“Early to bed, Early to rise
Makes a man healthy, wealthy & wise”
Sleeping and resting is a way to reset your body and relieve it off from all the days’ long activities. Sleeping on time has become very unpopular among this generation, which has ultimately resulted in devastating effects on their health.
Most of us, spend long hours on our phones at night and disrupt our sleeping patterns. This has a direct effect on our pineal gland, this gland is responsible for controlling our metabolism, so not only do we disrupt the normal functioning of our body but as a side-effect, we also end up getting huge dark circles around our eyes. Not getting enough sleep also leaves the brain feeling groggy which decreases our overall output at either work or at school.
Therefore, it is really important to get 8 hours of sleep, so that our body can get the due time it deserves to reboot and function well the next day.
Mental health is as important as being physically fit
2020 is the year of self-love. It is essential to make sure that your mind stays free from all the clutter and negative thoughts. The best way to take care of yourself is by loving yourself more than you love others.
If you have any kind of social anxiety, mood swings or depressive episodes, make sure to seek help. You can try breathing exercises or meditate for at least half an hour to make sure your mind is at peace.
It is really important to prioritise our own self by keeping your emotions in check and letting go of all of your crude thoughts. Make sure to paint your life’s picture with all the positivity that surrounds you and let go of all the things that have the potential to bring you down.
If the mind is healthy and away from all deleterious thoughts, the body will automatically be healthy. This year let’s vow to take care of ourselves and make our mental well being one of the most important things to focus on as how you feel has a huge impact on the way we look.
A healthy body equals a beautiful life
Our body is what suffices our entire life. Each and everything that we do on a day to day basis, is related to how our insides are functioning.
If you prefer taking the elevator and not the stairs, it’s a sign that your body might be weak. Hence, it is really important to listen to the important signs that your body might be telling you. The answer to it all is by opting for a lifestyle that not just boosts your physical health but also improves your overall functioning of the brain.
The following are the many ways that you can turn your life around this new year.
Chopping off those extra kilos
It is estimated that almost 50% of the UAE population, suffers from obesity. The main problem lies in their sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits.
For most people, losing weight becomes a life-long struggle. They go on ridiculous diets where they stop eating completely, which ultimately results in their body shutting off.
It is very important to keep in mind that losing weight is supposed to be a long journey and cannot be achieved in a day or two. It requires a lot of time and dedication. It is important to lose weight the healthy way, fasting and leaving food all of a sudden to tone down that belly fat is going to do you more harm than good.
Make sure to divide your meals and not the amount that you consume in a day, make sure to avoid all kinds of greasy, sugary food and incorporate healthy juices and green leafy vegetables in your life. Increase the amount of fiber in your diet and drink plenty of fluids.
The brain requires energy at all times, hence dividing the portion size and increasing the number of meals is one of the best ways to reduce weight in a healthy way.
Small yet significant changes in your diet
If you are used to ordering food and love having desserts, this is exactly the time you need to stop yourself. The amount of bad fat that all the junk food contains is very harmful to the body, the fat from these items not just results in a person getting obese, but it also gets deposited in the lining of the blood vessels and significantly increases the risk of heart diseases and stroke.
It is very important to limit the usage of sugar and salt in your diet, as both of these, cause serious long-term effects on the body. Excessive salt intake is the reason why most people suffer from hypertension. Likewise, excessive sugar in the diet has shown to be one of the risk factors of getting diabetes.
Cutting off from all the unhealthy food completely is something close to impossible, but try taking baby steps in eliminating them from your life. This will not just leave you loving your body as a whole but will also help boost your self-esteem once you get the right kind of ingredients to pump up your body’s machinery.
Incorporating exercise in your schedule
Keeping sure that your body stays fit, it is important to exercise at least thrice a week. It is extremely difficult to push yourself to do some squats or pull-ups, but once you start forcing yourself to do it, you will see yourself wanting to hit the gym subconsciously.
Exercise has a lot of benefits; it not only brings your joints and muscles in motion but also helps regulate your blood pressure.
The after-effects of every workout not just let you get rid of toxins from your body through sweat but also releases endorphins that alleviates all the stresses of your day.
If going to the gym seems like a lot of work then try going for a jog in the morning but don’t sleep on your goals of being physically fit this year.
Exercising not just helps build up stamina but also strengthens your body from within by correcting your posture and increasing blood flow to your otherwise inactive muscles.
Hydration is the key to a sound mind and body
Our body is composed of almost 60% of water, which means that almost all of our metabolic processes are happening because of water.
Drinking an adequate amount of water is not just good for the kidneys, but it also makes the skin shine and looks flawless. It is important to limit yourself from having carbonated and energy drinks whenever you feel like quenching off of your thirst, they do not suffice for the water that your body needs.
A normal body requires at least 8 glasses of water every day. Dehydration can cause a lot of problems, it even increases the incidence of having a stroke, and hence it is very essential to make sure that your body is well hydrated. Think of carrying a water bottle with you to be as important as applying sunblock on a sunny day.
In Conclusion:
The world is moving at an extremely fast pace, but it is important to hold back and put the main focus on our health.
We often neglect ourselves to a point that our body starts breaking down. Therefore, it is essential to follow all the above pointers so that you can enjoy all that life has to offer, this year and the next.
